When we speak about reproductive health care, it is not always clear what we are talking about. Generally speaking, in the world of public health, reproductive health care for women of child-bearing age refers to fertility control—contraception and abortion services. The issue of reproductive health care has become quite volatile in the past decade, and has taken on a meaning way beyond health. We now examine the issue through a political, religious and moral lens. As a result, access to reproductive health services has been eroding. The fact remains, however, that reproductive health care affects not only women’s health, but infant and child health as well—a family value espoused by all religious and political leaders.
